From Your Local MP
It has been a busy couple of months, with cultural events a big focus most weekends. Locally, we hosted a very successful ‘Upper Harbour’ stand for Diwali at Trusts Stadium in West Auckland, and we organised and held a fun Filipino Community Connect event in my electorate office.
Sitting on the Justice select committee has shown me first-hand just how much legislation our Government is pushing through in its first year. A big part of our agenda is of course law and order, and from 21 November our police will have new powers to deal with gangs, including removing their patches in public spaces.
In the first year as your MP, I’ve tried to engage with as many locals, community leaders, and businesses as possible. Thank you to the many of you who’ve taken the time to bring me up to speed on local projects and issues that concern you.
I will continue to get across the electorate as much as I can, when I’m not in Wellington. Please do not hesitate to contact my office to make an appointment or invite me to your event, organisation, or local business.
Finally, I want to acknowledge my electorate office team led by Alexia for all the work they do. They’ve overseen significant success in the past year dealing with the likes of immigration matters and helping people get the attention and answers from Auckland Council and Auckland Transport.

Fun at Filipino Community Connect
Our Filipino Community Connect on 8 November, with special guest Paulo Garcia MP, was a huge success in the Upper Harbour electorate office. Upper Harbour is richly diverse and we will continue to actively reach out and connect.
Simeon Brown and Dana Kirkpatrick visit
Great to have ‘Minister of Many Things’, Hon Simeon Brown MP, in Upper Harbour recently to meet with local business leaders. Thanks to Albert of W Restaurant, on Hobsonville Road for hosting us. Hard-working East Coast MP and our third Whip, Dana Kirkpatrick was also a popular guest speaker at Upper Harbour's SuperBlues in Hobsonville.
Lyn Pushong acknowledged
Local resident Lyn Pushong was one of very few recognized with life membership of Hobsonville Probus. The club has celebrated five years, with wider Probus celebrating 50 years in New Zealand.
Locals give to breast cancer
Upper Harbour locals gave generously to breast cancer. Here with local volunteer Diane Duncalf outside Hobsonville Woolworths. Our Government is extending free breast screening to women aged 70 to 74, and we're now funding the drug Keytruda!
Key fire station serves us well
West Harbour Fire Station services our large North West community, and includes 38 local volunteer firefighters. Here with Chief Fire Officer Cody McEnaney and Station Officer Russell Kinzett.
"Pizza and Policy" productive
We hosted a productive Pizza & Policy night in Upper Harbour, discussing education and challenges in an online world. Big thanks to our very own Bayview public policy guru, Shelley Pilkington.
Upper Harbour busy with Diwali
The Hindu celebration of light, Diwali, drew a big crowd at Trusts Stadium, West Auckland in October. Upper Harbour took a stall, and the engagement from the public was really encouraging. Catalina Bay also hosted a very popular Hobsonville Diwali Festival down at Hobsonville Point’s waterfront.
