From your local MP

Wow what a year! I am so grateful for all the local support and interaction since being elected as the MP for Upper Harbour.
From Massey in the west to Wairau Valley in the east, I will continue to visit residents, businesses, community organisations, and schools. Understanding local views, aspirations, and concerns is key to being an effective representative in Parliament.
I’m pleased to confirm the fast-tracking of two critical projects for Auckland’s North-west. They are the SH16 Northwest Rapid Transport Corridor, which is a dedicated busway between the city centre and Brigham Creek, and the Northwest Alternative Highway, serving as a Kumeu bypass.
I promised to be a strong local voice in Government, and I appreciate that this has been a tough year for so many. With that in mind, please reach out to my Hobsonville electorate office and team at any time. We are here to serve your interests.

PM impressed with Massey High School’s building academy

Massey High School hosted the Prime Minister. The school of 1,800 students boasts a trades academy, with vocational pathways in building, automotive, and hospitality. The PM was impressed with the houses students construct on-site for Kāinga Ora, as was neighbouring MP and the Minister for Construction and Building, Hon Chris Penk.

Chinese festival locally celebrated

The Dragon Boat Festival was celebrated in style in June. Guest star Nancy Lu MP joined our Chinese community for a very special celebration in the electorate office. Upper Harbour is rich in cultural diversity, with your MP determined to regularly connect with the many local communities.

Greenhithe Law & Order public meeting well attended

Over 100 locals attended the local MP’s law and order public meeting in September. The night saw guest speaker Police Minister Mark Mitchell taking many questions from the floor. The Police’s Waitemata West Area Commander, Inspector Jason Edwards, attended as did local hardworking volunteers from Community Patrol New Zealand.
Mr Mitchell mapped out the Government’s law and order priorities. He also pointed to some early operational wins by the police, including more beat patrols now in our city centres, more frontline police being recruited, a crackdown on boy racers, a military-style academy already underway for serious repeat youth offenders, and significant gang arrests.
Cameron Brewer thanked the Minister for Police for his commitment to the task following huge support from the voting public at the last election to crack down on crime. He also acknowledged the Minister for his willingness to continue to engage with local communities at the coalface.

Education Minister joins forum

In May the office hosted its inaugural Upper Harbour Principals’ Forum with the hardworking Minister of Education Hon Erica Stanford joining our local school leaders. Lots of feedback and ideas were exchanged. The principals’ forums continue.

Bayview sees FamilyBoost benefits

It was great to visit 4 Kids & Whanau Centre in Bayview. Glenda is the CEO of Glenfield Action Trust and Samuel is the ECE Manager. They’re providing a terrific service and say FamilyBoost will really help hardworking local families. Many can now claim up to 25% of their weekly childcare fees, or a maximum of $975 every 3 months.

Unsworth Heights

It was afternoon tea with residents at Highgrove Village & Patrick Ferry House. Upper Harbour is home to a growing number of retirement villages which the MP often visits and presents.
