Apply now to be Wairarapa's 2025 Youth MP!
Applications open across New Zealand today for Youth Parliament 2025, a unique opportunity for young people to experience the political process and learn how government works.
Wairarapa Electorate MP, Mike Butterick is looking for a representative able to connect with young people from across the electorate and bring their perspectives to Parliament.
“I am thrilled to be able to announce this opportunity today. Being an MP is certainly not anything I had ever thought of when I was 16! But I have learnt how important and rewarding it is to represent my community.
I have learnt a lot about parliamentary process and representation this year and I will have a lot to share with the Wairarapa Youth MP.
My Youth MP could be from anywhere across the electorate – from Waipawa to Lake Ferry. They could be from town or country, interested in farming, social issues, economics – or just about anything.”
Interested young Wairarapa people, aged 16-18 years, should send an email of 300 words to Mike.ButterickMP@parliament.govt.nz; by Sunday the 23rd of February, 5pm. This email should outline the issues they care about and why they want to represent their community.
Following a programme of activity across the country from April onwards, a two-day event will take place at Parliament 1-2 July.
This will be New Zealand’s 11th Youth Parliament.
Up to 123 young people, selected from around the country will debate the issues.
